Michigan Caddis

Michigan Caddis

This fly was tied by Matt O'Neal of Savage Flies on YouTube.

Despite the name, this isn’t a true caddis pattern. It was designed to imitate the large Hexagenia mayflies that hatch across Michigan’s lakes and slow rivers each summer. Locally, anglers have long referred to them as the “Michigan Caddis”—a nickname that stuck, even if the entomology doesn’t quite line up. Regardless of what you call them, these oversized mayflies bring big fish to the surface, and this fly is tied with exactly that in mind.
