More About Loon Outdoors Streamside Accessories

Loon Outdoors has spent years refining both halves of a dry fly angler's kit: what keeps the fly floating, and what handles the tippet, hook, and knot work in between. This collection brings those two product lines together.

Choosing the Right Floatant

Not every floatant works on every material — especially CDC. Loon's floatant lineup covers the full range:

  • Aquel — a silicone gel floatant for general dry fly use; apply before the first cast and work into hackle and hair.
  • Lochsa — a gel formulated specifically to treat CDC without matting delicate fibers, along with hackle, hair, and yarn.
  • Top Ride — a powder desiccant (the "shake and bake" method) that dries out a waterlogged fly and recoats it in one step.
  • Easy Dry — a lighter powder floatant suited to smaller, more delicate patterns.
  • Blue Ribbon — a paste floatant for precise, targeted application.
  • Fly Dip — a dip-style liquid floatant for quick, even coverage on bushier patterns.

Most tyers carry at least two: a gel or liquid for pre-treating, and a powder for reviving a fly mid-drift.

Streamside Tools Built to Last

Loon's tool side is built around the Rogue series — forceps, nippers, and a retractable zinger — finished in stainless steel with a rust-resistant matte coating and double-dipped grips for cold, wet hands. The Rogue Forceps carry a locking mechanism for hook removal and an eye-clearing needle for gunked-up hook eyes. Quickdraw mitten clamps offer a wider grip for anglers fishing in gloves.

What to Consider

  • Material compatibility — CDC patterns need Lochsa or a powder desiccant, not a standard gel.
  • Application style — gels and liquids for pre-treatment, powders for on-stream revival.
  • Tool attachment — a zinger keeps forceps and nippers accessible without digging through a pack.
