Supreme Vise

Vise works great, has great clamp strength, and holds up over many flies. Only problem is that is does not contain instructions, but a quick Google search can fix that. This Vise is one of the best for beginners who want to try tying flies and excels at basic functions.

Bought this vise based on a YouTube review and wanting something simple and fairly old school feeling. It’s a c-clamp vise that I was going to put on a pedestal base. Based on the height of my other vises that I’m used to tying on I shortened the stem. The mechanism for locking the vise to keep it from rotating seemed to be on the wrong side. I took the vise apart to flip that to the other side facing me. There’s a wire fastener for lack of a better word between the brass part and the disc for adjusting for hook size. I replaced that with an e-clip. I think that’s what they are called. After that I tried to tighten the bolt to set the angle of the vise. That bolt was stripped. Was a real bugger to get out of there. Replaced it with a stainless steel bolt. Solid now. And the set up was just that easy. lol. After all that it’s a pretty solid simple vise. It’s definitely holds a hook solid. I’ve tied on it a few times now and am happy to have added it to my collection. Gave it 4 stars because I had to replace that bolt. Everything else I did was my preference.

Would highly recommend this vise as a Starter vise for Beginners because of its many features along with the ability to add accessories. The Two great features of this vise are the ability to adjust the Vise Head Angle and the 360 degree Rotation of the Vise Head. With the vise head at 90 degrees to the stem you can rotate materials onto your hook like you would with a true rotary vise. Adjusting the vise jaws tension to hold different size hooks is fairly easy. The Standard vise jaw holds hook sizes 2 up to 20 very well. Jaws are quick and easy to change if needed. The vise converts nicely to a Pedestal Base. A Bobbin Holder works well with this vise and increases your fly tying capabilities. A few slightly disappointing factors with this vise. The machining of the vise could be better. There was a slightly loose fit between the c-clamp and vise stem which was corrected by inserting a piece of cardboard between them. Also, the adjustment **** that loosens and locks the vise jaw rotation does not give smooth rotation at different tension levels, only with slight tension. Providing a Wrench to loosen and tighten the nut used to adjust the vise head angle would be one last recommendation. An adjustable wrench will do the job, which most people have. Again, for a vise at this price with All the Features it is Truly a Great Starter Vise.
