MFC Micro-Barred Fibbetts are a tapered synthetic nylon tailing fiber with factory-applied barring that penetrates the material rather than sitting on the surface — meaning the segmented pattern holds through repeated use without fading or rubbing off at the hook bend the way marker-applied barring does on cheaper alternatives.
The translucency is the other thing that sets them apart from solid synthetic fibers. In the water, they transmit light the way a natural mayfly tail does, giving the fly a life-like quality that opaque synthetics can't replicate. The taper runs fine at the tip and builds slightly toward the base, which makes them easy to align, tie in cleanly with minimal bulk, and trim to length without the fibers springing or splitting. Stiffness is consistent fiber to fiber — no sorting through a clump pulling out the ones that curve the wrong way.
