I first started using this to fletch arrows. It worked flawlessly on wood, carbon, and even aluminum shafts. Because it worked so well for that tricky and demanding application, I tried it for fly tying as well general household applications. Although I'm still a big fan of green-label Zap-A-Gap (applied with needle) for precise or delicate work, I use black-bottle Loctite whenever a gel is more useful and I've yet to be disappointed. It provides a bit more time for positioning items (like eyes) and Loctite considers it to be their most durable "super glue."
