This is the best hook out there for anything that requires a big gap. Its primarily marketed as a bass bug hook but dont stop there. Its become my favorite front hook for massive articulated streamers for carnivorous trout. I almost never use my old TMC 9395 anymore.
These are the best hooks I've found for tying large streamers and bass bugs. Of the brands I've tied with Gamakatsu are the sharpest hooks out of the bag and the gap is perfect both for adding bulk and for hook-up type patterns like Clouser minnows and crayfish. These are the only hooks I will go out of my way to find. They make a nice short stinger for the back end of articulated streamers too. I use the 2/0 for smaller musky flies and they give a good hook set.
I use this hook for tons of flies. For guiding in alaska I tie a bunch of flies for kings and slivers on the larger size hooks (1-2/0). Also use some as hooks for tube flies. They penetrate and hold very well and last a long time. I also use some in smaller sizes (4-6) for articulated trout and bass streamers for fishing around New England. Also a favorite for poppers and clouser minnows.
I bought these hooks for doing articulated streamers and I love them. They are sturdy and EXTREMELY sharp so be careful when tying with them! If you tie articulated streamers these hooks are a must!
Hooks have great holding power and strength despite the relatively thin wire of the hooks. While they are great for steamers these hooks offer versatility for many different styles of flies from shrimp to buggers. Point sharpness is second to none. These are my favorite all purpose hooks
