The non-rotary models, suited to simple application of hackle to hook shanks, are 2 1/4" long; choose from a brass model with a gold finish and rubber tubing on one jaw or a black tool steel model with duplex tubing (on both jaws). Rotary models, good for tying parachute patterns, have stainless steel jaws with rubber tubing on one jaw. All rotary models also have a handy half hitch tool on the lower end of the handle.
The large size rotary pliers are great! The rubber ring on one side prevents slipping, the head rotates easily, it keeps a firm grip on the hackle stem, and the long handle lets you easily wrap around materials and tools that are hanging in the way. Top notch!

These work well, just a little big and heavy for fine hackle. I use it on 14 or larger hackle just fime. One of numerous types of pliers you should have.

I have both the small and large bamboo handled pliers. I love them both. They really grip the hackle unlike many other pliers I have used. Once again I love the feel of the bamboo handles.
