A Cleaner Way to Suspend a Nymph Rig

Most strike indicators ask you to trade something for convenience: a peg-on post that unbalances your cast, a slip-on model that shifts under pressure, or a wool style that needs constant maintenance. Oros Strike Indicators take a different approach. Each one is a pair of molded foam hemispheres that unscrew, capture your leader in a centered slot, and thread back together with oversized, easy-grip threads. The result is a pressure-fit hold with the fastening hardware sealed inside the foam — nothing exposed to catch on your line, kink your leader, or snag on the way through the guides.

How the Design Improves Your Drift

Because the leader runs straight through the center of the indicator rather than off to one side, the rig stays balanced in the air and on the water. That centering reduces drag and tangling on the cast and helps heavier nymph rigs turn over cleanly. The foam itself is built to float more weight than many comparable indicators, so a single indicator can carry split shot and a weighted fly without sagging or going under — useful for anything from technical trout water to steelhead swing-and-nymph setups.

Choosing a Size and Color

Size should match your fly weight and water speed:

• 1/2" — small flies, light tippet, low or clear water
• 3/4" — general nymphing, moderate current, most trout rigs
• 1" — heavier flies, split shot, faster or deeper water

Color is where Oros gives you more control than most indicators. Standard colors include orange, pink, and white, and because the top and bottom halves can be mixed, you can pair a high-visibility color on top with a subtler shade below — handy for matching glare, overcast light, or angler preference without buying a separate SKU for every combination.

A Few Things to Know Before You Buy

• Threads can stiffen in freezing temperatures; a light coat of lip balm or wax on the threads keeps them turning smoothly in cold weather.
• The foam includes a biodegradable additive that speeds breakdown if lost streamside — it won't dissolve or weaken during normal use.
