Trina's Squirm Material is a soft, stretchy synthetic developed by Montana Fly Company in collaboration with fly designer Trina Hayes, built specifically for patterns that need to move, not just sit in the current. The material stretches under tension at the vise and immediately contracts when released, producing a pulsing, wriggling action that rigid synthetics simply can't replicate. It cuts cleanly, ties down without bulk, and holds fluorescent dyes with the kind of saturation that stays sharp after repeated fish and repeated washes.
In the water, this squirm worm fly tying material does the work. Fish a San Juan Worm or Squirmy Wormy variation in colored water after a rise and the continuous micro-movement along the hook shank reads as alive in a way that static materials don't. It ties equally well on a jig hook for euro rigs or a standard curved scud hook for traditional nymph presentations. In Small, it suits sizes 14–18 for clearer water or fussier fish; in Medium, it fills out a size 10–12 for high-water trout, panfish, or warmwater species that want something they can track from a distance.
