Target species trout

Tied by Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions.

During a sulfur hatch, adult mayflies often emerge and take flight within seconds. But not always. Some individuals stall at the surface, their wings upright, still tethered to the final threads of their nymphal shuck. It’s this moment of vulnerability that the Sulphur Klinkhammer is designed to imitate—when trout are most likely to strike.

This version of the Klinkhammer rides low in the surface film with the abdomen trailing beneath, perfectly mimicking a stuck emerger. The visible post and parachute hackle make it easy to spot and help keep it afloat in broken water, while the realistic silhouette below the surface does the heavy lifting for triggering strikes.
