Tied by Bill Morrison https://www.youtube.com/@billmorrisonflyfish
In this video, we'll be tying the Bluegill Gurgler. This is a fun-to-tie topwater bluegill and panfish fly that also works very well for bass. We'll tie it in a size 8, which is a good crossover size to tempt bass along with the bluegills. I also tie it in size 10 (bluegills) and sizes 4 and 6 (bass). It uses inexpensive craft foam, so you can mix and match any color combo you like.
Materials
2x long nymph hook #8 (#4 for bass to #12 for small panfish)
Marabou tail in Sculpin Olive - (optionally add flash or rubber legs to tail)
Roster cape hackle collar in Grizzly Olive (NOT saddle as I said in video!)
2mm craft foam - tan and green glued together
Hare'E Ice Dubbing in brown for underbody - any matching dubbing works
Medium round rubber legs in black or matching colors.
Black/Brown sharpie to create frog spots and eyes
