I love the syn olive yak hair. It is the same color and texture as what I purchased elsewhere at least one year ago. I was very disappointed in the syn cream yak hair. It is highly crimped. I own a lot of natural yak hair and the texture can vary somewhat but it is never exceedingly kinky. Regarding synthetic material for toothy critters, there is a huge selection of long material with crimp. There's less of a selection of straighter, long material with some stiffness. I refuse to support EP and Sq d/t their high prices. Having more texture and bulk at the head is great but, ideally, I like the material to be smoother, not crimped, for the tail so I can get the action I want from my flies. The cream material is useless for its intended purpose and I already have plenty that's textured in this color from other brands labeled something other than yak. Otherwise, this material has a sheen like yak does. IMO, this material is less stiff than yak.
I think JStockard is great. But unless I can email them and have them hand pick straighter material (which I think is a bit much to ask a larger place), I will stick with buying this material in person.
