Glass Rattles

These are easy to work with and make a nice rattle in the water. They do take up a lot of room on the hook, though, so are best reserved for pretty large flies. Even with the 3mm, I had a little trouble getting them on size 6 streamers and having the winging material set right.

Fantastic rattle for subsurface flies. I've found it to be too heavy for effective use on topwater patterns.

I use the 4mm rattle in all of my rattle flies. Insert rattle into hollow mylar cord and tie on the fly. Very audible without being too big to work with.
