My wife bought me this vise for the holidays...what a great gift. The vise holds hooks securely without any adjustment between sizes. The swivel head makes it easy to work on the underside of the fly.
I can't believe that I have tied as long as I have without this vise
No better vise

This is the best vise, hands down. It holds all sizes of hooks well enough to bend them and you can switch from a large streamer to a small nymph or dry without making any adjustments. The stainless midge jaws are my favorite.

I've tied on this vise for about 2 years and have been very happy with it. For the tier who doesn't like messing with adjustments, this vice is perfect because all you need to do is squeeze the handle to open the jaws. On the downside, if you don't place the hook in correctly it can pop out and chip the jaws

I own a selection of high quality vises but picked up a Medallion from J Stockard to find out "what I've been missing." It's a great vise with as-advertised holding. Very comfortable to tie on, too. I do get a little annoyed with the loosening of the brass end on the lever arm and with the sliding of the cork pad on the c-clamp base. Otherwise, it's been fantastic for the several months I've owned it. I got the Midge version and am now interested in getting a Big Game head to add this utility to the rest of my tying. Unfortunately, J Stockard doesn't offer the head separately, so I'll probably look elsewhere for that.
J. Stockard responds: We do sell the Big Game head with a stem and swivel attached, for only about $20 (12%) more than the list price of the head by itself. Many customers find it easier to change the base to the head/stem/swivel than change the head to the swivel.
