Other Details

Because GSP fibers are quite tough, they can damage the blade edge on fine scissors and stainless bobbins. The makers recommend using a ceramic bobbin and cutting with a razor blade. Nano Silk will take most dubbing waxes and this helps the thread stay in place as well as serve as a great dubbing thread. Although it is tough enough to make durable flies without a coating of head cement, UV cure and water-based cements can be used for appearance or texture. Solvent-based glues and coatings are not recommended as they might impair the fibers' strength.

Worth the price

This is the strongest thread that I have ever used that is this thin. The white takes color from a permanent marker well. Highly recommended.

I've become a big...

I've become a big fan of this thread. It's strong, small and lies flat, but can be split for loops.

Default tying thread

Absolutely worth it. I can tie much cleaner heads with this than other threads, and it won’t break. At least, I’ve never broken it. When I don’t want to add bulk to a fly, this is perfect. If I’m dubbing a nymph body and want to initially build up a thread base/taper, I’ll sometimes tie in my 12/0 nanosilk and then use another bobbin with thicker thread to quickly add a tapered thread base. Then I cut off the other thread and use this for the rest of the fly. If you wrap lead free wire around the bare hook, for example, it will take a while to build a thread dam behind the wire with this 12/0. I can see myself still using ultra thread utc 70 for zebra midges or anything where the thread body will be showing, but otherwise, this is my default thread for everything.
