They would be the only curved midge hook to buy IF you could get them smaller than an 18. I guess Daiichi discontinued those sizes some time ago, otherwise tge previous reviews (and calling it a chironomid hook at all) just makes no sense.
Maybe 18 is teeny in the UK, but definitely not in the USA. For the southern tailwaters I tie most of my midges for, the range is 18-22, occasionally up to 26 if I feel like squinting until my head hurts.
You can sub in the 1140 for sizes 20 and 22. It's a good hook, but it's lighter wire. You're just a tiny bit more likely to bend it out, and you'll need a tungsten bead to get a comparable sink rate.
