Description

These combo packs are designed for the beginning fly tyer who is setting up a new tying bench. They contain 4 pieces of quality hackle including 1 grizzly and usually 1 brown. Though not graded by Whiting, the 4 half rooster cape pack is of quality at least equal to their bronze grade with feathers mostly in sizes 10 to 16. The Introductory Soft Hackle Pack of 2 half rooster capes and 2 half hen capes is from Whiting's 4B (Bigger, Better Bargain Birds) line. Both packs represent excellent value!

Other Details

The combo pack of half 4B rooster capes and half 4B hen capes is the first product we've carried in the 4B (Bigger, Better, Bargain Birds) line. Whiting describes the uses of these 4B capes: The roosters provide a supple quill, great for collaring, streamer wings, and quill bodies. Round, webby hen feathers are great for soft hackles, legs, wing cases, and even dry fly wings. Each type of half cape includes one of the bird's wings.

excellent hackle

I got the intro pack, came as picture with a cream, black, brown and grizzly. It doesn't have too many big feathers, I would say you tie some really small flies like 16-20 maybe. The feathers were all perfect.

I got more than I paid for.

After purchasing a four pack of half necks in the grizzly, brown, blue dun and ginger barred colors I was excited to use them. The quality is very good and I can tie about a thousand flies. They may be bronze quality but they look great and are easy to work with.

Worth the Investment

Reviewer: from Hudson Valley, NY

I was hesitant to pull the trigger since this seems like a lifetime supply of dry fly hackle, but the quality is noticeably better than the smaller packages I had before. Has made tying a lot easier and my flies a little better.

This is an excellent value for someone getting started tying flies. It's hard to beat the price for the amount of high quality feathers.

Great for starters

If you're just getting started in tying dries, this is the product for you. It comes with four colors backed by Whiting quality. If you happen to fish the salt also, you can make great seaducers with these feathers.
