I use the BirdFur for streamers, leeches, wooly buggers and for classic spey flies also. It works very well at all. The colouring is enduring, the stem is fine enough for palmering at the upper part of the feathers so I am very pleased.
I have recently deceided to use only bird fur for my special pike leaches. With longer fibers, you can't go wrong. It has pheonominal action in the water and is very simple to tie with. If you are one who enjoys the movement of marabou, you are going to go crazy over bird fur!
Although a remarkable product as are all of Whitiing's developments, if you are looking for primarily hackles for tying spey or dee flies, stick with the spey necks. Bird Fur is the low grade of the spey necks and contains few true spey hackles. This is not to imply that they aren't tremendous feathers for long thin marabou type applications such as leaches, streamers etc.
I really like this material as either a marabou replacement on streamers or to add some action at the head of a spey fly. You should note this is not traditional hackle like many of the other Whiting products. It's acts more like marabou and has long fibers.
