I go with S80 when I want a wider hook gape, or S82 when I want a beadhead, the S82 having longer length. Both are great for traditional wets. Quality hook, sorry JS but I prefer spending the extra cash for these. I like the quality of these, and I rarely get a bad one.
The hooks are stout and pretty sharp. Barbs crush well. The hooks are much smaller than pictured, at least on my screen (size 6 was about how size 10 is pictured). Would be nice to have a scale bar...
I originally tied with mustad hooks when I first started tying. I would not buy any other brand. They make a quality hook for a good price. These are great for nymphs and all my flies look great tied on Mustad hooks.
Having gone off Mustad for a number of years, I returned to this Signature model, tying a few favourite caddis wets and flymphs on it. It proved to be just the right weight and strength, with enough gape and sharpness for good, reliable hook-ups. I now tie the majority of my bead heads, many wets and most small streamers and baby-buggers on the S82-3906b. I'm as surprised as anybody that its turned into one of my favourite hooks.
