Stainless steel, for pinching barbs, split shot or anything else. Features a leaf spring in the handle so they are self-opening. The jaws are smooth, not serrated, so they won't mar the hook finish.

They get the job done

Reviewer: from Vermont

Smooth in the hand, and easy operating. The jaws on mine are different thicknesses. Not a precision machined tool, they are "Just Simply" pliers.

Nice Pliers

I bought a pair to use to pinch down the barbs on my hooks when tying flies, but I kept stealing them to go on fishing trips. I finally bought another pair so I could leave one in my vest and one with my fly tying supplies.

Won't change your life but, worth a few bucks

Reviewer: from Fort Worth, TX

You already have a set of needle nose pliers from the hardware store and I am sure they will get the job done. BUT the smooth flat jaws on these seem to do a much better job flattening the barb on a hook. I can apply the pressure where I need it more effectively. They are by no means a show piece and no marvel of machining process but, get the job done and Well worth the very reasonable price.

Great for tying

Reviewer: from Little Elm, TX US

These pliers are great for tying. It has enough strength to bend over the barbs of your hooks with out marring them. I tie with Mustad hooks size 6 and smaller. I have yet to have a barb snag on anything after using these pliers.

Good but small

Reviewer: from Missouri

I really like these, they smash barbs with ease and hold tiny hooks , they are however just a little on the small side. My arthritic hands have a hard time holding on to the small slick handles. I have some rubber tool dip I'll dunk the handles in , that should fix it.
