Focussed on the creation of the world’s best fly tying materials, Semperfli is possibly the world’s fastest growing tying materials company! Based in Yorkshire England, a region long associated with fly tying and fly fishing, there are four cornerstones that matter to our rapidly growing family run company: Innovation, Passion, Customer Service and Quality.

Innovative materials like the world’s strongest GSP for diameter Nano Silk and Classic Waxed Threads – the result of three year research and development effort to create a thread that lays flat, providing more grip and strength with just the right levels of wax for fly tying.

Semperfli never sits still and constantly innovates, bringing out new materials each year, each one designed to make the Tyers work more interesting, creative or easier!

Passion is seen throughout :

  • in the amazing Semperfli Pro Team comprising of some of the best fly Tyers in the world, their work at exhibitions and social media has to be seen,
  •  the worldwide base of Tyers who fall in love with Semperfli Materials, and
  • of course in Semperfli’s R&D and manufacturing teams who are driven to deliver the best quality materials specifically for fly tying.

Passion is embedded in all employees. Customer service is king to Semperfli. The support and assistance provided to Tyers through the company and it’s dealers is second to none. Do check out the Semperfli interactive catalog too, it’s unlike any other out there! Full of inspiration with stunning fly images and tying videos built in! Semperfli.us/2019catalog.

Quality can be seen across the massive and expanding range of products in the Semperfli offering that encompasses wires to silks, Straggle Legs and Straggle String, chenilles and wools – all specially developed for fly tying. Even the spools, labels and dispensing packs are of the highest quality!

With the increasing challenges of working with natural materials, such as peacock now being CITES registered for example, it’s reassuring to tie with reliable and quality synthetic alternatives as Semperfli offers. Try Straggle String as your peacock substitute, it’s perfect!

The dedication that this company has for the very best in fly tying means you can rely on Semperfli!

Interesting blog. I do have several questions about your product line. Are your threads bonded or unbonded, multi-filament? Unbonded threads allow me to split the threads for dubbing or flatten or cord threads to smooth or build up bulk as needed for many of the flies I tie. Why is Nano Silk called silk when it is synthetic and not silk?
Lastly, I intend to try your Straggle String as a substitute for peacock as I find nearly all peacock available for the past several years to be of poor quality. Thank you for your assistance.

We contacted Semperfli for you Robert and here are the replies to your questions.

Are your threads bonded or unbonded, multi-filament? We presume this is on the waxed threads. They are very lightly bonded which means the threads can indeed be split easily. They are multi-filament. The waxed thread does lay flat giving good grip but when twisted will build bulk rapidly for you.

Why is Nano Silk called silk when it is synthetic and not silk? – We called this product nano silk because, even though it is a synthetic, it has a sheen and feel just like real silk.

Lastly, I intend to try your Straggle String as a substitute for peacock as I find nearly all peacock available for the past several years to be of poor quality – thank you for this. You are indeed wise to use straggle string as a peacock alternative as peacock is now CITES registered so it is best to find a safe alternative. You may like to try our synthetic quills too which are a new addition to our range – ideal and safe substitutes.
