As one of J. Stockard’s regular contributors, I applaud all the contributors for building a wealth of interesting and useful knowledge that can be shared for years to come by fly anglers of all persuasions. I am always thumbing through the posts, reminding myself of the useful experiences and tips they contain. Thanks to Kate and James for hosting this forum.

I’m an Ozark fly fisherman living near the college town of Rolla, Missouri. Five miles to the south of my house is The Little Piney, a flies only, catch and release stream with a self sustaining population of rainbows stocked from California’s McCloud River in the late 1800s. Fifteen miles to the west is Mill Creek with the same population and regulations as The Little Piney. Thirty-five miles to the south is Current River, the country’s first Wild and Scenic River way with an incredible population of rainbow and brown trout. The upper 11 miles is a flies only stream with a 1 fish, 18 inches or better limit. It may be one of the best small fly rivers I have ever fished. We catch 20″ plus trout on #16 to #22 and smaller flies. Caddis, BWOs, Tricos etc. Current river emanates from a spring and fishes well 12 months a year. To say I’m a lucky fly guy is an understatement.
