Tie the Clouser Deep Minnow on This One
Reviewer: A viewer from Fredericksburg, VA US
This hook fascinates me in the way it works. If a fish takes a fly tied on this hook, it hooks itself. When I used it in Alaska last year, nearly every fish I caught was hooked in the corner of its mouth. I've used it on bass and have gotten the same results. It's straight eye, one extra long length will probably take the place of the venerated Mustad 3366 I've used for many years to tie all but the smallest Clousers I tie. But...when you use it, let the fish take the hook. If you strike the fish, you'll pull the hook out of its mouth. When you feel the strike, take up the slack and hang on. This hook is also available in black nickel, C51S, but I have yet to try it. Though I am sold on circle hooks, I've yet to figure out how to sharpen one. This hook is needle sharp out of the box. So far, my ties with this hook haven't needed to be sharpened. I suspect the way its point is turned in avoids damage from rocks.
