Does what it's supposed to do

I bought this vice to replace my first vice (another cheap one off of e-bay)There's definitely no frills, bells, or whistles on this vice, but it is functional. It can be a little tricky adjusting the jaws for different size hooks, but nothing too hard.
If you're new to tying, or need a cheap travel vise, or are teaching tying classes, this is an excellent choice. Well worth the few bucks. Seems to be of sturdy construction and i don't see it breaking anytime soon.If you tie frequently i would save up the money for a nicer one. Or do like i am, get this to hold you over until you can afford a good rotary vise.

I learned to tie on this vise over 30 years ago. In fact, I still use the very same vise from time-to-time -- 30 years later. This is a great vise for a beginner or occasional tier. I use it as a travel vise. It takes a little adjusting to get the jaws set up for the hook size that you are tying, but once it is set it does a good job of keeping the hook secure.
Great beginners vise

I recently took a steelhead fishing course at my college, and we covered tying flies for steelhead, including in-class fly tying. I looked online, found this site and ordered basic tools for beginners fly tying. This vise is the one I chose, and I feel it is an excellent choice for beginners. Low cost, very adjustable, simple to use, mountable anywhere. The only detractor is it doesn't have a groove in it for the hook, so it is possible to push down and slip the hook from the jaws. However, this does require a large amount of force, and isn't likely to happen in most tying patterns. Once again, a great vise for occasional tyers or beginners.

I bought t his vise so the kid could have something to tie on. This vise does the trick. It holds the hooks great no slipping or problems at all. Easily adjustable and sturdy C clamp. Looking for a back up? Don't want the kids messing with the HMH? Grab this. Great value at a great price.
Good beginner vise

I'm new to fly tying and before spending $100+ on a "real" vise, i got this. They were in stock as of 19 July 10 when I ordered mine. I had to put together the cam lever since it came either disassembled or had come apart during shipping. Otherwise, a good vise. Just make sure your bench has a lip for the C-clamp!
