Best wire for ribbing #16 & bigger flies
Reviewer: A viewer from East Rand, Gauteng ZA
I use nothing ele by Ultra-wire.
Best on #16 & bigger flies, all the way up to #10 (Brassie size is better on #8 & bigger).
Stretch by stroking with your fingers if a bit too thick for #16. Will not tarnish.
I use Silver on Black nymphs. Amber (not Copper) on PTN's and Gold for GRHE.
For Czech nymphs, the silver or gold gives best contrast.
Variety of colors
Reviewer: A viewer from Western NY US
It's nice to have some color options other than silver, gold, and copper. Take note that the colors are exactly as the picture shows so I've found that using brown wire for ribbing on brown dubbing doesn't provide much contrast so buy lots of differnt colors.
Ever heard of the pheasant tail nymph?
Reviewer: A viewer from Greenville, SC US
Small red wire and a few fibers from a pheasant tail is what made the original english pattern called the pheasant tail nymph. I tie this same pattern today using the wire as both weight, building the thorax, and as "tying thread". Wire offers many possibilities to the fly tyer and Wapsi Ultra Wire is definately affordable.
