Nice For Variety

I like having the natural color to mix up my caddis and stimulator patterns that have worked so well for me. It's quite a bit darker than the bleached variety and can sometimes fool the fish who are well versed in their fly knowledge. You get a good sized patch of natural elk hair for your money. It's easy to use, from cutting all the way to getting it on your fly. I find myself integrating the natural hair into patterns that don't necessarily call for it...just because it's so easy to work with.

I was pleasantly surprised as I just opened my order and started using this hair. I mostly use my elk hair for wings and bullet heads on big stonefly and hopper patterns and having a good quality hair is always important. I ordered 5 packages and the first thing I noticed was they were all consistently straight and looked good at the first glance. Then when I opened the package up and put a bit in the stacker I became even more impressed. This hair stacks beautifully to make those wings and bullet heads turn out perfect. I am impressed by the consistency of this product and the quality for a very reasonable price.

good hair for stimulators, elk-hair caddis, small muddlers, humpies, and irresistibles. the hair I got was evenly textured. Lots of underfur, which indicates a winter hide which is good, but also a lot of short hairs. Definitely need to comb out the underfur and shorts before stacking. Expect considerable waste due to the shorts, but that is pretty normal for off-the-shelf elk and deer hair.
