Fantastic fly rod
Reviewer: A viewer from Orinda, CA US
I have been a fan of Sage for many years. This fly rod is by far the best fly rod I have ever fished with. It is light, has fast action, and is a pleasure to cast with, even in windy conditions. What I love most is the price. You really get the best of Sage for a reasonable cost. I look forward to building many more VXP's for both me and my friends.
VXP is a winner

Sage hit the nail on the head with this one...a fantastic rod blank, at a very reasonable price. If you wonder what kind of action it is, it's very similar to the Z-Axis. Even the weight and tapers are very similar. So if you like the Z-Axis, you'll like the VXP as well. Awesome rod blank...fast action, and smooth casting. Highly recommended!

The 5wt VT2 I built is certainly a pretty rod and works okay - but the tip is a bit firmer than my preference. I built a 5wt Batson Rainshadow in olympic green to replace it. It is no less attractive, the taper works better for me and it costs around half that of the VT2. Now I've got to find someone who really wants a Sage...
Fishing is like...

Fishing with the 7'9" 3wt is like fishing with accompaniment by a symphony. The rods cast so smooth. The finish is as you would expect from a sage blank... perfect. My only qualm with the blank is that Sage puts their logo on the blank where all can see it. I prefer to keep my rods logo free with just some handwritten text to describe the rod. Royal blue thread matches well without CP. Silver trim looks good on the ferrule wraps.
Smooth and beautiful

Honestly, you can probably find a blank out there that casts just as well as this one for less money, BUT... the finish on this rod is gorgeous, the attention to detail is top notch, and Sage's customer service is outstanding. A true work of art. There is however, no plugs for the male ferrule end??
