Beautiful feathers...but look elsewhere
Reviewer: A viewer from Connecticut
Ringneck pheasant rump feathers make great hackle collars on nymphs and wet flies. However, you may want to pass on this offering from Hareline. The patch I received was full of dust. Not much of a problem, a quick shake outside should take care of it, or so I thought. However, the dust had mixed with the natural oils in the skin, leaving the feathers coated with a layer of sticky goo. The stuff gets all over your fingers, and pretty well everything else, when working with the feathers. Additionally, the fat deposits left on the skin seem to have developed a layer of white mold, and bits flake off each time the pelt is handled. In this condition the material is not very pleasant to work with, and will likely end up in the trash bin.
Long story short, pheasant rump feathers are worth trying, but make sure you take a close look at 'em in person before making a purchase.
