I want to like these...

Reviewer: from N HIGHLANDS, CA USA

...but I don't. Maybe I am too heavy handed or the spring in this has a problem or isn't strong enough. The hackle seems to pull out of the pliers every time I try to use them. Even on really large hackle it doesn't hold tight. I was really hoping these would be good for small and delicate hackle but, they are basically useless to me. At least they were cheap.

Convenient tool

Reviewer: from Ann Arbor, MI US

This a rather convenient tool, which is definitely worth having on your fly tying desk. The only flaws I can think of are the lack of a handle and its light weight. Although again, these are just properties of the item which you can learn to work with. Worth having.

Excellent investment for rookies

Reviewer: from New Westminster, BC CA

As a new tyer I am still all thumbs at times. This little gadget was like having a third hand and made it much easier during the tying process.
My only wish was that it was a little more weighted.

Great for more than just hackle

Reviewer: from Springwater, New York US

This is great for applying hackle but I also use it to hold my finished flies for photography. There are so many uses for this little tool!

Doesn't hold tightly

Reviewer: from CHRISTIANSBURG, VA USA

I was a little disappointed in this product. I am not especially heavy handed but nonetheless have found it very difficult to keep a grip on the feathers. Bending the hook tighter helped a little but not much. It is also hard to get a good grip on the pliers. They work okay for allowing head cement to dry on small flies and for photographs but other than that I would suggest an alternative.
