Not for the beginner tyer.

As much as I love Dave Hughes books, I must admit this isn't for the beginner. It's not for Master tyers, so don't be intimated. It just seems like he glosses over some of the techniques required to tie some of these flies.
However, for the intermediate to semi-advanced tyers, this book provides a great selection of "go to" flies. Advanced and Master tyers will have already learned these essential flies. Dave even provides advice on how to fish them.

This book is the esential guide for all standard trout patterns used anywhere in the world!! I purchased this book to pic up some tips on tying different styles of trout flies, although its a 10 year old book, all patterns are completely relevant for todays fishing. The writing is excellent and easy to understand, pictures are excellent. Although,I wouldn't rate this as a beginning tyers book, it does cover some of the basics. But, for the intermediate to experienced tyer like myself its a great aid for refreshers on modern patterns. 5 stars!!!
Nice supplemental book

I like this book and got it to see if I could learn some new variations on proven flies. Good reference book if you are also looking for something new or maybe not have known. I still like Craven's a little better though.
