Ultra GSP Thread
by: Wapsi
SKU: TW-025160-0000

Product Overview:

Ultra GSP is stronger for its weight than steel and the best value GSP anywhere. Choose from 6 colors and 3 sizes: 50 denier, about the diameter of 12/0 thread and with a breaking strength of 44 oz., is excellent for small flies and a minimum of bulk. 100 denier is all–purpose for both fresh and saltwater, about the diameter of 7/0 thread with a breaking strength of 128 oz. (Kevlar, by comparison, has the same breaking strength for 200 denier thread.) 200 denier is great for spinning big deer hair and other large, demanding patterns. 50 yard spools.

Starting at: $2.85

5 out of 5 stars Amazing product 00/00/0000

Every once and awhile something comes along and makes everything that came before it obsolete. Gel spun thread is that product for us fly-tyers. Two things to get out of the way first. This stuff can be hard to cut if your scissors aren't really sharp, even the 50 denier. Secondly, it is very slick and is a bit harder to get started than what you're used to. But, to me, these are very minor inconveniences. In fact, the first one is a major plus. I'm tying everything from size 8 Madam X's to size 24 JuJuB's with the 50 denier Wapsi, simply unbelievable. It lays flat as a pancake and it is strong, very strong. This thread is a miracle, plain and simple. And no, I don't work for Wapsi, either:-). It is expensive and I've compared the Wapsi to another product that costs twice as much and I can tell little or no difference between the two. So it's Wapsi for me. I'm hoping a lot of people start using this thread because maybe then the price will drop. This is important to me because I'm going to be using a LOT of it!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for Midges and other small flies 00/00/0000
Reviewer: Scott Boettcher (scottboettch@yahoo.com) from Rock Springs, WY US
This is by far the best small fly thread on the market. Not only is it super small it is also incredibly strong. The white is almost translucent. When wet it melts into the body color.
