Eyes on recessed ends stay on the fly longer, protected by the metal edges. Quantity per package is 20 pieces for medium, 15 for large and 10 for x-large. These aluminum eyes allow you to have larger eyes on your flies without the added weight. Ive also found that when fishing in a slower current they "hover" a little better in the water column before sinking after you strip the fly.
