Danvise
by: Danica
SKU: OF-900805-0000

Product Overview:

This vise was one of the first true rotary vises to break the $100 price barrier, and has won a loyal following. In a design that has been emulated by other companies, the Danvise allows alignment of the hook shank with the axis of rotation, so that when rotated with the crank handle, the shank remains stationary. The jaws hold hooks ranging from size 28 up to 2/0 securely, and the vise stem is adjustable up to a full 6 ½″ and has a C–clamp base. A bobbin rest and instruction DVD are included.

Other Details:
The vise stem diameter measures 10 mm (just over 25/64″), and vise accessories made for 3/8″ stems such as bases, trim bags and stem–mounted lights may not fit this vise.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Quality First Up Vise 08/02/2008
Reviewer: Michael Kan (michael_kan2000@yahoo.co.uk) from MACGREGOR, QUEENSLAND AU
This was my first ever vise. I now have a Renzetti which is incomparable. However, the Danvise vise is a very good beginning vise to own. It has full rotation and very strong jaws. It can tie small flies right up to big saltwater flies. I guess the only problems encountered is it is a little bulky and the clamping mechanism has the ability to break eventually. Overall though, it is a very good vise to start with for anyone who is about to enter the realms of fly tying.

5 out of 5 stars great product 07/25/2008
Reviewer: A viewer from Mesa, AZ US
This vise is a great value, its very easy to use. The only regret I have is I didn't purchase one sooner. The rotary vise not only makes things Faster and easier but the quality of my flies improved as well. It seems to me that most of the problems people have with this vise stem from user error ie.. as far as I know with any vise you should adjust the jaws of the vise for different sized hooks. With proper adjustment you will find this or any vise will have a much longer life. All you have to do is watch the instructional dvd that comes with it and you should have no problems. You can't buy a better rotating vise for under $80

1 out of 5 stars Horrible 07/21/2008
Reviewer: Robert Lowther from Potter County, PA US
I'd give it less than 1 star if I could. Between having to adjust the jaws to change hook sizes and having to make adjustments to keep it from rotating, it wasn't worth the money. The stem is bigger than standard vises, so accessories from other vises don't work with it. I broke mine by over tightening the head assembly to keep it from rotating. I called the company [Danvise] and they told me that is a common problem. [J. Stockard FF responds: In the interest of fairness, we show negative reviews as well as the raves... Frankly, the Danvise is not as heavy duty as the higher priced all–metal vises, although it is made of advanced, strong resin material. We sell dozens of Danvises each year and experiences like Robert’s are rare... ].

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Vise and Affordable 07/09/2008
Reviewer: A viewer from Sister Bay, WI US
Have been tying with the Danvise for 6 months and can't say enough good things. Rotary function is great, the jaws lock tight, with a lever lock/release that seems flawless. The bench clamp is one of the best I've used and holds. I did get the extension which I feel is a must, especially for tying saltwater flies. However, it makes tying #18 - #22 easier as well with a little more room for your fingers. All in all, unless you need the flash and glitz of the more expensive Rotary's, save your money and get a Danvise.
