WindCutter II Fly Line
by: RIO Products
SKU: LL-210110-0000

Product Overview:

This taper was designed especially for western rivers where delicate presentations are required in windy conditions. Accurate casts can be made with the WindCutter® with just the tip of the rod for a very tight loop; yet for windy conditions or when distance is needed, the thick belly will load the butt section of modern graphite rods. The Super Floatation Tip, with a welded loop, acts as an indicator to detect subtle takes when fishing emergers subsurface and also facilitates quick leader changes. The AgentX coating and XS Technology delivers smooth casts in coldwater fishing conditions, and the two–colored line shows exactly the loading point of the head. Weights and lengths available: WF3F — WF5F 90 ft (27.4 m); WF6F — WF8F 100 ft (30.5 m), Color: Yellow/Sage

Other Details:

Some weights are Special Orders and will take longer for delivery. See weight selection menu.

4 out of 5 stars Nice line but not for short casts or heavy flies 00/00/0000
Reviewer: A viewer from Saskatchewan, Canada
I fish a 6 wt Rio Windcutter II (on a moderate-fast TFO 9' 6wt rod) for trout and other species in both lakes and rivers. Positives: After a light initial stretching, Windcutter II has no memory and with a few exceptions (detailed below) it casts well. I really like the sage coloring of the forward section because it is still visible on the water (and in the air) without being *too* visible to fish; the yellow color of the running line helps me identify a loading point. The looped tip is small and straight (easily passes through the guides of my 6 wt TFO), it seems to hold up well, and it does not sink. The line's coating is slick, hard, and does not readily pick up dirt, algae, etc. but still benefits for a quick cleaning with a damp cloth after every outing or two. This is a great line for soft presentations. Negatives: The head of the Windcutter II is interesting because it is underweighted for about the first 15-17 feet and then overweighted for next 18-20 feet. Consequently I find the line has too little weight to load my rod for casts which aerialize less than 25-30 feet of line. Also, because the forward portion of the head is underweighted I have difficulty turning over heavy/wind-resistant flies with this line. Summary: Great line for gentle presentations but if your fishing includes a lot of short casts or a lot of casts with heavy/wind-resistant flies then you might consider a different line.
