The shank is the perfect length for a dry fly. If you tie dry flies, then you have to buy this hook and use it. This is many years of experimenting with other companies, hooks, materials and such speaking here. Tie with Mustad only! It's the only hook for me! The only problem is that they are a bit heavier than the TMC100, and an eye-length shorter. I tie a mulberry carp pattern that is hackle-less, and it won't float because of the weight of this hook, even when soaked with Gink! Sure, Mustad hooks are a lot cheaper than Tiemco, but they seem to be more well suited for short nymphs or heavily-hackled dries.
