Black/Black is a great combination for night fishing. The tail is tied ‘scissors’ style (tips curving outward) to enhance the action of the fly during the retrieve. The peacock herl topping adds a realistic looking flash and provides the dark back that many batifish have. The Merrimack Deceiver can be tied with a weighted body to get the fly down into a lower strike zone — effective when fishing strong currents or deep structure. In these conditions, cast the fly upcurrent and strip out line until the fly passes into the strike zone. Tied on Mustad 2x strong saltwater hooks. Tail color matches the bottom color, i.e., green/white fly has a white under–body and tail, and a green wing.
