Few flies have accounted for as many fish and as much excitement as this improbable creation. The Royal Wulff was originally named the Hair–Winged Royal Coachman, designed by Lee Wulff in the ’30’s. Although it doesn’t resemble anything that flies, it is very effective, especially during the bigger mayfly hatch and during the fall of the spent gnat in the evening. Other fly designers renamed the original the Royal Wulff and created variations on the Wulff design, including the White Wulff and Ausable Wulff.
