I'm a newbie at tying flies. I bought this book, the peak rotary vise and some materials all at the same time. This book is where to start. Charlie starts you out simple and each lesson builds on what you learned from the previous lesson. By the time you are done with this book you will know how tie and have the confidence to tie all kinds of different flies. The nice thing is that all the techniques you learn allow you to tye other flies and you might even come up with a few of your own. For about a week, my vise and book looked at me. I was afraid of tying an ugly fly (kinda silly, right?)Then I figured a fish wouldn't care if it was ugly or not. I tied my first fly. I kid you not, it looks terrible. Its the first fly I've ever tied, and every fly I've tied since then has gotten better and better. So my advice is buy the book, and tye tye tye flies. Its what I'm doing.
