Dave Carpenter

Dave Carpenter grew up in Southern Idaho fly fishing some of that area’s famous rivers and streams, including the Snake, Salmon, Boise and Owyhee Rivers and Tributaries. In 1992, he moved further west to Oregon’s Willamette Valley and has been chasing steelhead and salmon species ever since. He and his wife, Lori, currently reside on the banks of the Little North Fork of the Santiam River which offers steelhead and trout fly fishing opportunities. Living in the Santiam Canyon provides the opportunity to "field test" his fly patterns — quite literally, in his own back yard. Sending out his "Pro Staff" (7 kids) with a handful of flies provides instant feedback on how well the flies work! He’s also within driving distance of some incredible Steelhead and Salmon fisheries and has tested the Fly and Jig patterns all over the Pacific Northwest. Dave claims that he is less an innovator than a student of some of the area’s fly tying legends — Shewey, Kauffman, Knudson, Glasso and others. Having studied their styles and methods and then added his own twists, he’s offering some of his most effective fly patterns here.
