Fat Ruby's Fly House
A featured fly tyer this month, Russ Forney retired from the Army after 26 years on active duty and now patrols northeastern Wyoming with a fly rod. He is well acquainted with a tying vise and particularly enjoys the challenge of tying and fishing small fly patterns and emergers. He has tied flies for catalog sales, small fly shops, charity funds raisers, and individual clients for the last 10 years. Russ and his flies have appeared in Flyfishing & Tying Journal, Fly Rod & Reel Magazine, and were featured in The Orvis News. The Orvis Company added several of his creative patterns to their fly collection in 2006. Russ recently launched "Fat Ruby’s Fly House" to showcase his innovative patterns and plans to evolve the site into a web-based resource for fly tying materials, tying lessons, and related links. Russ is proud to be a member of the Board of Trustees for "Project Healing Waters", a national organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled military personnel through fly fishing and fly tying activities.
