Jim has been fly fishing now for over 20 years and is living in Oughterard, on the shores of Ireland’s biggest and most famous wild brown trout & salmon fishery, Lough Corrib. This lake is 32 miles long and 10 miles wide and simply teaming with trout up to 20 lbs plus, but averaging at 1.5 – 2 lb. In addition to running an angling B&B and guiding services on the lake, Jim has been tying very effective trout fly patterns for more than 10 years. He likes to not only improve on more traditional versions with slight twists but has created some new combinations that have really delivered the goods over the last few years. The Golden Cobbler pattern recently won an award in UK Trout Fisherman Magazine. The focus is on creating flies that catch fish and not just pretty patterns that look good to anglers. All the patterns work and have been fine tuned by the old but reliable method of "trial & error" by Jim himself. These are flies tied by an angler, for anglers.
