Born and raised on the West Coast, Richard Essegian spent the majority of his earliest fishing time in the Sierra Nevada’s above Fresno, CA. At the age of 30, Richard and his wife relocated to the Midwest to be with her family. He currently resides in northest Indiana where the great state of Michigan is not far away. The majority of his fishing days are spent on one of Southern Michigan’s best smallmouth rivers, with 20 fish days not uncommon. For trout every one knows you can’t venture into the state of Michigan without visiting some of their famous waters and Richard’s trout experiences always lead him to the famous Pere Marquette River. Add the variety of rivers, ponds and lakes of both states and you have a very diverse fishery for the fly rodder. With this in mind, Richard likes to tie several patterns that can cross over between the two species.
