Blue Heron Hooks are the best spey fly hook I have used. I have been tying on this hook for over two years and it has produced fish from Washington to Northern California. Dave McNeese, a well-known fly tyer and fisherman in Oregon and throughout the Northwest, designed these hooks. The hook has a great profile and the low angle eye keeps the fly from riding up on the swing. The hook is made from a high quality steel that helps prevent it from breaking on rocks. The long, extra sharp point makes setting the fly easy. I think the great look of this black-chromed hook makes it ideal for presentation tying as well. It is the only hook I use for Steelhead.
This hook is one of the most graceful I've come across. The shank length makes them a good alternative to blind eye hooks for Classic Spey patterns - I've tied many flies on these hooks, particularly the smaller size, including Lady Carolines, Freight Trains, Coal Cars and other well know spey and steelhead patterns.
Smaller hook gap is good for most east coast salmon rivers (fits the regs). Hard to beat the fit and finish of this hook. The low eye seals the deal for me.
