Great Brookie rod

Reviewer: A viewer from Nashville, TN US

Built the 6'6 2wt in this rod. The rod performs great, soft enough for a gentle presentation of the fly, but has enough power to generate the long cast when needed. Fished well with 2wt DT or 3wt WF. A friend of mine that has fly fished for about 20yr cast the rod the other day and asked what it was, when I told him the cost of the blank he said "I won't tell anyone, this thing performs like a high end rod"

Smal but it works

I built a Forecast 7'6" four piece rod and was happily surpised. There is a small creek near my home. I didn't want to use my other rod so I took the Forecast for a spin. It was smooth, cast well and handled 14 inch trout without a hitch. I'm used to a 9ft 7wt so the Forecast was a new toy and it did as advertised and looked good in the process.

Amazing performance for an inexpensive blank

Reviewer: A viewer from Eastern PA

Purchased and built a 9' 8-wt. several years back when I was first getting into rod building. Several hours of practice casting yielded consistent 100' casts with a standard WF8F line. I have also built several lighter weight rods with these blanks, and haven't been disappointed with the performance. The blanks have a moderate/fast feel and load well enough with the rated line to fire accurate casts at fairly close to longer distances. To increase speed and decrease blank weight, I routinely sand the paint finish off the rod with Barkeeper's Friend, wet paper towel, and a lot of elbow grease. The result is a significant increase in line speed with the same casting stroke.

wonderful blanks even for the novice

Reviewer: A viewer from La Vergne, TN US

I was using a $230.00 rod bought from a major chain with a brand name on it when the bug to build one took me. So, I built a new one from the J. Stockard website. This rod has more consistent flex and action. It is also lighter, making for a much more relaxing day on the river. It cost less than half the money even including the tools. Still better is that it is a one of a kind. The staff was more than just friendly as well, they actually spent the time imparting knowledge and help. I am currently looking at another build...6.6' 2 or 3 wt for fishing the mountain streams. I will be using these blanks for that one as well.

rod build

Reviewer: A viewer from Maryville, TN US

i built 2 of the 8'6" 5weight blanks. for the money, they are hard to beat. a nice medium fast action. nice color. they load well and are smooth. the diameter is slightly larger than a high end blank, but the people that i made the fly rods for really like fishing with them. if you want a blank at a modest price with good overall performance, this is it...
